Drill Pipe Setback Tool (SHDPST)

The STRONGHOLD Drill Pipe Setback Tool (SHDPST) is an essential hands-free rig safety tool engineered for the safe and accurate positioning of drill pipes into setback locations on the rig floor, while maintaining maximum operator safety, directional control, and working flexibility throughout the operation.

Positioning drill pipe in the setback area involves guiding heavy, fluid-contaminated pipe stands into tight, designated floor locations — an operation that traditionally exposes floormen to significant hand injury risk, slipping hazards, and direct contact with potentially hazardous drilling fluids including oil-based mud (OBM), synthetic-based mud (SBM), and H₂S-contaminated fluids.

The SHDPST directly eliminates these exposure risks. The tool’s pipe-engaging cradle maintains a secure grip on the pipe OD during setback positioning, while the long fiberglass shaft ensures the operator’s hands and body remain at a safe stand-off distance throughout the movement. This makes the SHDPST a critical line-of-defense tool in hand safety programs and dropped object prevention plans (DOPP) across UAE, GCC, and MENA offshore and onshore drilling operations.
