Pipe handling safety tool with aluminium pole and dual release system, available in 3FT, 4FT, and 5FT lengths. Keeps operators at a safe distance from suspended tubulars.

Suspended pipe on a rig floor is heavy, unpredictable, and has injured more people than most crews like to think about. Hands near swinging tubulars is where most pipe handling incidents start. The Snare Tool keeps the operator at a distance — 3, 4, or 5 feet back — while still maintaining control over the pipe.

The tool uses a cable loop that cinches around the pipe, controlled from the end of an aircraft-grade aluminium pole. When the pipe needs to be released, there are two options: the standard spring-loaded release and an emergency release that works by lifting and sliding a knob. No fumbling. No reaching toward a swinging load. The redesigned swivel head allows quick reattachment after release, so the operator can re-engage the next joint without walking back to a workbench.

Key features

  • Aircraft-grade aluminium construction — strong enough for repeated field use, light enough to handle for a full shift
  • Dual release system on every pole — spring-loaded primary release and emergency lift-and-slide release
  • Swivel head mechanism allows quick re-engagement after releasing a pipe, reducing cycle time
  • Available in 3FT, 4FT, and 5FT pole lengths to match different reach requirements on the rig floor
  • Cable loop design grips the pipe securely without relying on friction alone

Applications

Used wherever crew members need to guide, push, pull, or steady suspended tubulars without putting their hands near the load. Rig floors during tripping operations are the most common setting. The tool also works on pipe racks during horizontal handling, on deck during offshore lifts, and in warehousing or pipe manufacturing facilities where tubulars are moved frequently. Anywhere a sling would normally go around a pipe — but faster, controlled, and releasable from a safe distance.

Why this product matters

Standard slings used for pipe handling wear out. They also require someone to get close to the load to rig and de-rig them. That is where hands get caught. The Snare Tool removes the operator from the danger zone while providing a controlled grip and a reliable release. The emergency release feature adds a backup when things do not go as planned — which, on a rig floor, happens regularly.

Additional information

Select pole length based on the typical reach distance required on your rig floor or work area. The 5FT version provides maximum standoff but is less manoeuvrable in tight spaces. The 3FT version works well for close-quarter pipe handling such as mousehole operations. Inspect the cable loop and release mechanism before each shift. Replace the cable if fraying or kinking is visible. The aluminium body can be cleaned with standard solvents and does not require lubrication.
