Telescopic aluminium push-pull pole extending from 1.2 m to 2.1 m, with hook end for tag line retrieval and rubber buffer for guiding suspended loads at a safe distance.

Hands near a suspended load. That is where lifting injuries happen. The tag line needs to be grabbed, the load needs a nudge into position, and someone steps in too close. The Stronghold Push-Pull Pole removes the person from the danger zone. It extends from 1.2 metres (4 ft) retracted to 2.1 metres (7 ft) fully extended, giving the operator enough reach to guide loads and retrieve tag lines without standing under or beside the lift.

The pole is telescopic aluminium. Light enough to use one-handed for an entire shift. Strong enough to take the repeated impact of pushing and guiding steel loads on a busy deck or rig floor. One end has a hook for snagging and retrieving tag lines vertically. The other end has a rubber buffer for pushing and guiding suspended loads into position, with enough give to absorb contact without ricocheting off the load.

Key features

  • Telescopic aluminium construction — retracts to 1.2 m (4 ft) for storage and transport, extends to 2.1 m (7 ft) for working reach
  • Hook end retrieves tag lines vertically, so operators do not need to walk under a suspended load to grab a dangling line
  • Rubber buffer end pushes and guides loads in congested areas, absorbing impact without damaging the load or bouncing back unpredictably
  • Lightweight enough for single-handed use across a full shift without arm fatigue becoming a problem
  • Fits into tight and congested lifting spaces where full-length rigid poles would be impractical

Applications

Used during any lifting operation where personnel need to stay clear of the load path. Offshore platform crane lifts are the most common application — guiding containers, equipment baskets, and pipe bundles into landing zones on congested decks. Onshore, it works during rig-up and rig-down when heavy components are being swung into place. The hook end is particularly useful for retrieving tag lines that are out of reach after a load has been raised. The rubber buffer end handles the final positioning — nudging a load the last few inches into place on a pipe rack, laydown area, or equipment skid.

Why this product matters

Lifting operations account for a large share of serious injuries on offshore platforms and construction sites. Most of those injuries happen during the “last metre” — when the load is almost in position and someone reaches in to guide it by hand. The push-pull pole keeps the operator’s hands and body away from that contact point. The telescopic design means it stows compactly when not in use, so it actually gets carried to the job site instead of left in the tool shed. A safety tool that is too bulky to bring along does not protect anyone.

Additional information

The rubber buffer should be inspected regularly for cracking or hardening, especially in high-UV offshore environments. Replace the buffer if it loses its ability to absorb impact. The telescopic locking mechanism should click positively before use — if it slips under load, the pole will collapse and the operator loses control. Clean the pole sections with fresh water after exposure to saltwater or drilling fluids to prevent the telescoping action from seizing. No special storage requirements beyond keeping it out of direct contact with corrosive chemicals.
